Etienne Jules Marey
Born in 1830 in Beaune, Etienne Jules Marey was a doctor and physiologist.
Considered a rare renaissance man in his time, he was a pioneer of photography and inventor of chronophotography (using photography to analyse a movement) and scientific cinematography.
In particular, in 1882 he developed the photographic gun, which allowed him to produce action shots of a moving person with 12 images in a frame.
In his specially-built physiological studio he produced fascinating otherworldly series of images that have become famous.
